Table Decorations For Prom
- (table decoration) Any of many diverse articles placed on a dining table principally as ornament though some may have a secondary function
- In the United States and Canada, a prom, short for promenade, is a formal (black tie) dance, or gathering of high school students. It is typically held near the end of junior and/or senior year. It figures greatly in popular culture and is a major event among high school students.
- Prom is the second solo album by Amy Ray of Indigo Girls, released in 2005 on her Daemon Records label.
- A formal dance, esp. one held by a class in high school or college at the end of a year
At "Prom", every couple has a story and no two are exactly alike. For Nova Prescott (Aimee Teegarden), it's a classic tale of opposites attracting when she finds herself drawn to the guy (Thomas McDonell) who gets in the way of her perfect prom. Share the laughter and the drama as secrets are brought to light, seemingly steady relationships unravel and new romance catches fire. Get ready for this hilariously heartfelt date with destiny featuring a hot ensemble cast of rising young stars and cool bonus features. There are hundreds of nights in high school, but there's only one Prom.
Does anything pierce the hearts, hopes, and dreams of high schoolers like prom? It's not just a dance--it represents love, affirmation, a rite of passage, and the chance to get a really, really cute dress. And maybe the boy you've had a crush on since freshman year. Disney's Prom is a warm, affectionate look at a cast of characters (think High School Musical or Glee), about whom the audience slowly begins to care and root for. "Graduation is for the parents," one character solemnly pronounces, "but prom is really for us." The ensemble cast is believable and talented, and each young actor breaks out of his or her proscribed stereotype--the blond popular girl, Nova (Aimee Teegarden, also a standout in Scream 4), the broody dark-haired mystery guy, Jesse (Thomas McDonell--watch your back, Pattinson), and more. There are outcasts who earnestly believe in the magic of prom, and there are anointed ones who are jaded. But somehow they will all come together on this night to go through the wonderful, sometimes terrifying, sometimes shudderingly awful night known as prom. Standouts in the crowd include Mei (Yin Chang), who is obsessing over a secret, and Tyler (DeVaughn Nixon, incredibly handsome and confident on camera). Jared Kusnitz is Justin, a John Cusack-like Everykid who observes all the angst and anticipation leading up to the dance, and can't quite commit to whether he's part of the scene or not. Director Joe Nussbaum keeps all the intertwining stories moving along crisply, and guides his young actors with a light, engaging hand. Before you know it, it's prom night, and every viewer will have his or her heart on the line. Prom also features a great soundtrack, with fresh songs from the Weepies, the Shout Out Louds, and more. 2011: Week 9 // Mom's Surprise 50th Birthday Party
My mom celebrated her 50th birthday this past Monday, February 28th. This deserved more than just cake and ice cream, so over the weekend I went home, and along with 40 of her friends and family, threw her a surprise party on Saturday night.
My sister and I had spent the past month planning this thing. We had to book a space, invite friends and family, order food, buy decorations, and lie to our mom. The part I really wanted to spend time on was finding pictures of my mom throughout her life—baby pictures, school pictures, wedding pictures—and getting them framed to have sitting out on the tables with the food and decorations.
Should be easy enough, I thought. The problem was finding the pictures. I remember seeing some of these photos in my grandma's house, but once we moved her into the nursing home and everything out of her house, I never saw them again. But I already had this image in my head of all these old photos sitting on the tables and 60's music playing in the background and everyone coming in and saying "Awwwwww, look how cute!" and "Oh my goodness she hasn't changed a bit!" and "Look at those hippie clothes!". I had to find them.
Long story short, we struck gold in one album that was hidden behind a stack of other albums in a cabinet under the television. Come to find out, it contained some of the only photographs that existed of my mom when she was a little girl. There was one of her as a baby, and almost one for every year she was in school, including two prom pictures with her and dad.
The party was a success—my mom was surprised, everyone laughed at the stories we told about her, and the decorations and photos looked awesome. But my favorite part was definitely going through all of those old photos of mom. It put the whole weekend into perspective.
Sidenote: Everyone says the photo of mom when she was 8 (the photo with the caption "8 yrs. old") looks like me with a wig on. I'll take it as a compliment. Which I guess means mom will not.
A good friend (teacher) was the coordinator of prom 2 years ago and she wanted to send thank you cards to all the folks that helped. This is a rose from one of the table decorations that they wanted her to have. This is no light but what was coming through two small windows (I had to take a few) and I printed out cards for her with this on the front.

Get ready for an awesome adventure of a lifetime in Monte Carlo! Selena Gomez (Ramona and Beezus) lights up the screen as Grace, a high-spirited high school grad looking forward to a vacation in Paris with her best friend Emma (Katie Cassidy) and stepsister Meg (Leighton Meester). Just as the girls think their trip is ruined when their hyperactive tour guide leaves them behind, Grace is mistaken for a wealthy socialite and the trio is whisked away to Monte Carlo for a thrilling week of glitz, glam, and unforgettable fun.
A graduation trip to Paris and a case of mistaken identity coincide to give three Texan girls an overseas adventure they'll never forget. Friends Grace (Selena Gomez) and Emma (Katie Cassidy) are going on a trip to Paris to celebrate Grace's graduation, but find themselves saddled with Emma's soon-to-be stepsister Meg (Leighton Meester), who's just about as different from Emma and Grace as is humanly possible. The trip starts out rushed and much less glamorous than the girls anticipated, but when Grace is mistaken for British heiress Cordelia Winthrop Scott, the girls suddenly find themselves in the lap of luxury and wind up at a charity event in Monte Carlo. Along the way, each of the girls meets a boy who helps them to mature and discover what's truly important in their lives. This movie has essentially been done before (think The Lizzie McGuire Movie and Cheetah Girls 2), and even with the star power of Gomez, this rendition pales in comparison. Throw in the unlikely pairing of Cassidy and Gomez as friends and contemporaries despite their significant age difference, and the abrupt personality switch that Meester's character undergoes, and the whole film comes off as pretty unbelievable to those over 12 years old. However, tweens are likely to find the characters and situation enticing enough, especially when combined with the draw of Disney Channel icon Gomez, to earn the film a passing score.
